![]() The obligatory ballad on Look What the Cat Dragged In is one of the album’s few tracks that doesn’t revel in joyous sleaze. “I raise a toast to all of us/Who are breakin’ our backs every day,” sings Michaels, who declares, “If wanting the good life is such a crime/Lord, then put me away.” Recorded by David Miseveth at Tuxedo Avenue Recordings.Poison’s celebration of blue-collar living is simple but accurate: When you’re fruitlessly busting your hump like the sweaty dishwasher shown in this song’s video, the escape of booze, music and women is just as much about survival as it is about decadence. Even though that festival is in the books, this song will bring you right back to teenage summers filled with angst, first loves, and beach-soaked adolescent longing. This band feels like something fresh off the Warped Tour stage. It’s excellent storytelling that clearly marks the passage of time without feeling stale. I also really liked the way the song switches from “I’ve been taking all your pictures off the walls” to “Tell me why I’ve been taking all your pictures off the walls”. Even if you haven’t had your heart broken in a while, the lyrics are equal parts cathartic and genuine, with riveting drum fills and catchy melodies you can easily sing along with. Laced with palm-muted guitar goodness covering the gritty, sad-angry vibes around a breakup, it’s a song most people will relate to. ![]() On the hunt for your next pop-punk obsession?
